2026 SUMMER OPEN CAD Speedmodeling Tournament - LEADERBOARD RULES
REGISTRATION FOR THIS TOURNAMENT ENDS May 26, 2026 at Midnight
OVERVIEW:
Each participant will use screen capture software to record a "speedrun" of themselves modeling 3 TooTallToby CAD CHALLENGES using ANY 3D CAD SYSTEM. This recording will be uploaded to YouTube.com as either an UNLISTED or a PUBLIC video. The URL will be shared as part of the participant submission, and will be associated with the total time it took the user to complete all 3 models.
The fastest 8 times will qualify for the 2026 SUMMER OPEN CAD Speedmodeling Tournament.

RULES for the 2026 SUMMER OPEN CAD Speedmodeling Tournament qualifying leaderboard (Updated MAY 12, 2026):
1. Practice as much as you want before recording.
2. Record the entire session (all 3 models) in 1 continuous run, without stopping the recording.
You must begin the first model AFTER pressing the START button on the clock.
CLOCK - The clock found HERE must be visible in your recorded video.
- 2026 SUMMER OPEN CLOCK - (Link coming soon)
CLOCK - You must use the clock found HERE to submit your times to the qualifying leaderboard
- 2026 SUMMER OPEN CLOCK - (Link coming soon)
CLOCK - You must click the button labeled "CLICK HERE WHEN FINISHED MODEL" after you finish each model.
OPTIONAL - Edit in post processing to add overlays/music/etc...
OPTIONAL - Include voice narration, include video camera footage of your face or hands.
3. For each of the 3 models, you must create a NEW DESIGN.
Participants must “begin a new document” at the start of each model. Leaderboard runners will click BEGIN or FINISH MODEL 1, FINISH MODEL 2, then begin on a "blank screen" or will click "NEW DOCUMENT" to begin the round (this process will be slightly different, depending on the CAD system).
4. Templates and Pre-created geometry
-
Templates are a great way to decrease the amount of time it takes to create a 3D model. However, the spirit of this tournament is one which encourages the participants to create NEW geometry to construct the 3D models during the battles.
-
Templates may contain pre-created material properties. EXAMPLES: Material, Appearance, Density.
-
Templates may contain pre-created REFERENCE geometry. EXAMPLES: Planes, Axes, Coordinate Systems.
-
Templates/user interface may contain tools that help you quickly calculate/view the mass of the model
Example:
On the TooTallToby DISCORD in the #materials-tools channel, there are several tools for several different CAD systems, to speed up the calculation of the model based on different materials. These are all allowed in the tournament. -
Templates MAY NOT contain pre-created geometry in the form of 2D Sketches, 3D Sketches, SOLID geometry or SURFACE geometry. We (both the organizers and the audience) want to see the participants creating this type of geometry from scratch.
-
Similarly, participants MAY NOT UTILIZE user created “drag and drop” library features during the tournament. EXAMPLES would include things like user created “Tombstone shapes” and user created “Bolt Circles with multiple counterbored holes already positioned”.
-
Again, we (both the organizers and the audience) want to see the participants creating this type of geometry from scratch.
5. Customized Tools and Customized Macros:
-
This is a bit of a gray area…but the general rule is that if a tool has been custom coded to help in “day to day” engineering activities, you can probably use it in the tournament.
Example 1: An Onshape user created a custom tool that does a “double mirror” – meaning it mirrors across 2 planes at the same time, so you can model one quadrant (1/4) of the model and mirror it in both directions, leaving you with a completed model.
Example 2: A CATIA user created a custom plug in that helped create Counterbore and Countersink holes. CATIA did not have a built in "hole wizard" type of utlity. Are these allowed? YES!! Because they have a practical application in the real world. However – for any questions regarding customized tools/customized macros the best thing to do is CONTACT TOBY via the contact page on tootalltoby.com.
6. No IVAN EXPLOITS (see video COMING SOON).
NOTE: although the “IVAN EXPLOIT” is permitted in the tournament, it is not permitted here in the qualifying speedruns.
Each model must be geometrically correct, based on the 2D drawing.
7. You must CLEARLY show the correct mass of each model, before moving on to the next model.
The mass must be shown in the CORRECT UNITS (meaning: Do not show KG if the model is asking for LBS). The mass must be shown with the CORRECT PRECISION (or with a MORE PRECISE number of significant digits).
If you do not show the correct mass on screen (CLEARLY and readable), your submission will be considered disqualified and will be deleted from the leaderboard.
If you calculate a mass which DOES NOT MATCH the target mass for the model, your submission will be considered disqualified and will be deleted from the leaderboard.
8. Post your recording on Youtube. Then enter a link to the video in your Too Tall Toby Platform Profile on the Leaderboards Tab, and Submit it for Verification.
9. Watch the Leaderboard. When your video is Verified, a link will be added to your video on the Leaderboard.
10. This tournament leaderboard closes on May 26, 2026, at midnight EAST COAST USA timezone.
11. By submitting your video to this Leaderboard you grant Too Tall Toby and team the right to use the video footage of your submission for any marketing/promotional purposes without limitation.
12. You may submit more than one result.
Your fastest time will be considered your official submission. All slower times will be deleted from the Leaderboard. Only one VERIFIED VIDEO (the fastest time) will be eligible for entry to the Tournament.
NOTE: During the tournamnet you must use the 3D CAD system you were using during the qualifying speedrun. If you qualify for the tournament using Onshape, you must using Onshape during the tournament competition matches.
13. We will be seeding this tournament with 8 entrants on this leaderboard.
The 8 runners with the fastest times will be contacted within 48 hours of the close of the qualification leaderboard. If any these runners are unable to participate in the tournament (or fail to respond to our request), we will reach out to the next fastest runners on the leaderboard to ask for their participation (AKA – tournament alternates).
14. Any leaderboard submissions that do not qualify (due to failure to follow the above rules) will be deleted from the tournament leaderboard.
15. Rule 15: Final Authority and Discretion
In the event of errors, discrepancies, or unforeseen circumstances requiring administrative intervention, the TooTallToby leadership team retains absolute discretion to determine the appropriate resolution. This may include exceptions to established rules to ensure the integrity of the competition. While the team commits to communicating the rationale behind such decisions to the community, all rulings are final. Participation in this challenge constitutes an agreement to abide by these determinations and a waiver of any right to appeal or contest the outcome.
16. Good luck!
